You will help up to make a difference in the lives of the children of Ocean County.

Volunteer

Being a "Big Brother" or "Big Sister" is one of the most rewarding and enjoyable things you will ever do. The only requirements are a willingness to be a friend, to have fun, and to see the world (and yourself) through the eyes of a young person. As a Big, you and your Little will do everyday activities like playing sports, seeing a movie, cooking, going over schoolwork, taking a walk, or just hanging out. Volunteers are paired up with a youth from ages 5 to 17 years old. Every volunteer is screened, trained, and supported. We have many mentoring programs to guide and support all our Littles in Ocean County. Find a mentoring program from our list below.

School-Based Mentoring

The School-Based Program focuses on creating an inviting environment in the child's school. Teachers identify children who can benefit from interaction with a caring adult. Volunteers spend one-on-one time with Littles typically once a week during the academic year. As their friendship evolves, they both discover ways to make school and learning fun.

High School Bigs Mentoring Program

The High School Bigs Mentoring Program matches high school juniors and seniors with elementary children. Volunteers spend one-on-one time with Littles typically once a week during the academic year during or after school hours depending on the location of their school. Bigs act as role models and experience the life changing power of service. Littles experience a connection with someone close to their age whom they can identify with. Together the pair builds a strong lasting friendship.

Community-Based Mentoring

The Community-Based Program helps build a cultivating relationship with a Little by providing them with skills to manage every day challenges. Volunteers spend one-on-one time with Littles typically two to four times a month. Through simple friendships, Bigs experience the joy of helping children discover a world of possibilities and opportunities.

"Waiting Littles" Program

Monthly activities are provided for the community-based children that are waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister. Activities are planned to provide children with new experiences and opportunities as well as meeting new friends.
