Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County (BBBSOC) celebrated with the employees of New Jersey Natural Gas at the conclusion of their 2016-2017 Project Venture program (Workplace Mentoring) at a luncheon recently held at the company’s facility. Each employee mentor gives their time and talent to broaden the children’s exposure to potential job possibilities; ability to acquire career skills; and learn rules, norms, and expectations of the workplace.
New Jersey Natural Gas (www.njng.com) has a longstanding tradition of service to the community with a team that demonstrates energy, enthusiasm and passion for giving back. Ms. Carolyn Cannon commented “Some of the children come with issues and our volunteers help them work through their concerns. We learn from them and they learn from us. This is a wonderful program that we’re proud to be a part of it. We’re looking forward to meeting and working with new children when schools reopen in September.”
Marianne Harrel, who has been a volunteer since the program’s inception 29 years ago explains why she is so passionate about the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. “I am a Project Venture mentor because I know the more positive influences our youth are exposed to, the more likely they are to achieve success in adulthood. I like that I can share information with my Little(s) about myself, the workplace, and life in general while learning about them and hopefully sharing a laugh or two in the process during the course of the year.”
A Big Thank You to New Jersey Natural Gas and Their Employees!
